In Taiwan, Father’s Day is on August 8, or 8/8. The pronunciation of this in Chinese is baba.

In Chinese, the pronunciation of ‘dad’’ is also baba. The tone is not the same, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the fact they are homonyms influenced which day of the year to be Father’s Day.

In any case, with the big flood down south this year, I can’t say it was a particularly auspicious Father’s Day, even with it having two eights.
