Yellow Dust in Taipei

This weekend, particularly yesterday, a lot of people were coughing and seemed to have breathing problems. I didn’t even think much of it first, not being able to see that far in the distance from my window. I didn’t stop to think why cigarette smoke or scooter exhaust seemed that much more toxic yesterday. I didn’t think of the yellow dust problems from mainland China would actually ever come near Taipei. Taipei should be too far south. However, I was wrong.

It was not like breathing out of a full vacuum cleaner bag, but I guessed that if Taipei were getting Yellow Dust, then it must be really bad in Korea. I was right about that – the particulate levels in the air were the worst ever recorded there.
