Northwest passage

Now ships can go across the northwest passage in the summer. I don’t see why ships are any better at getting freight across Russia than rail, and it wouldn’t surprise me if some pirates decided to stalk that passage as well.

All this does is really make me curious. It seems like a lot of the polar ice cap is melting in the summer as it is, so where will the additional rises in sea level come from in the future? Given how thin it is, it seems like any rise from the North Pole will not be enough to satisfy predictions of what is to come.  Does Antarctica really have that much more ice to melt?
