Building stability

There was a 6.3 earthquake 69km off of Hualian today, though where I was made me wonder if the building could withstand shear forces properly. It seemed like joints were doing all the flexing. In Japan, it was the beams and posts that flexed. The joints were fixed. So I have to wonder about the building quality…

However, this is even better. An entire building in Shanghai fell over when some excavation work occurred to build an underground parking lot.

I am actually impressed that the building fell over in one piece. I would have expected it to break into smaller pieces, but even outer decorative brick layer is intact. It is just too bad it has essentially nothing for a foundation.
