Taiwan as a part of the USA
After WW2, Japan gave up Taiwan. However, Taiwan was not specifically given to any particular country after that. Hence, some overseas Taiwanese decided to file a lawsuit in the US stating since the US took over other territories until they decided themselves what they wanted to do, Taiwan should also have that opportunity.
This idea had crossed my mind before, but I did not actually expect it to happen.
The court declined to rule on the validity of the argument because they consider it politically motivated. However, I am curious if Taiwanese had to decide which country they would be a part of, which one they would choose. I’d bet they’d choose Japan – at least amongst the people in northern Taiwan.
