Vegetarianism is not necessarily better than eating meat
I have been going to several Buddhist meetings a week, and it is currently the biggest source of enjoyment in my life here. I learn a lot of interesting perspectives. For example, last night, somebody brought up the idea that vegetarianism was better than eating meat. The master said “Not necessarily. A lot of the beautiful vegetables are grown with tonnes of pesticides and other harmful substances that kill the animals and insects nearby.”
So now I have another reason to eat organic, though like the fact I came vegetarian, did not arise from my interest in Buddhism – the way of growing is a lot easier on the life living in the area where the produce is grown. I am lucky that a lot of organic food is available here for a reasonable price.
