Oasis Hong Kong goes out of business

I wasn’t too happy to read this article today. Oasis provided a very cheap way for me to get from Hong Kong to Vancouver last summer. I bought my ticket only a fortnight beforehand. If I had to choose any other airline, I would have had to pay much, much more. It seems their money got eaten up by fuel costs, and they weren’t doing any sort of hedging that would preserve their profits.

Before, it would have been cheaper for me to go to any Oasis destinations by flying to Hong Kong and then flying with them than it would have been direct from Seoul. In many cases, less than half the cost. It seems like flights to Seoul priced in high fuel costs a long time ago. At least the education office will pay for my air ticket when I leave…
