AC Conversion

I was kind of surprised to find out that until today, Con Edison (in New York) still supplied DC power to certain customers rather than AC power. Lower Manhattan began to transition from DC to AC power back in 1928, and the transition was expected to take 45 years (finishing in 1973). The subway uses DC power converted from AC at substations on MTA property, so it does not get DC power from Con Edison.
