Dragon Boat Festival 端午節
Yesterday was the so-called Dragon Boat festival. I say "so-called" because I didn’t actually see any dragon boats with drums like I sometimes did when I lived in Boston. The only thing marking the occasion was the availability of 粽子. It is glutinous rice shaped like a pyramid with some filling inside (usually meat). Needless to say, as a vegetarian, it is my least favourite Chinese holiday food. Even the varieties that do not have meat (which yesterday included pineapple and bean paste) taste worse than the pancakes including the same available year-round.
Personally, I’d rather see the boats than the food on this particular holiday.
