Lentils 滨豆?

Lentils, at least the variety of lentils used in Indian food (aka Dal), are hard to come by. I have several dictionaries, each with a different translation, and none of my Chinese friends are clear on what they are. One dictionary says it should be 滨豆. Wenlin says 扁/萹/稨/藊豆. (All of the first characters are apparently equivalent).

So I cook some lentils, and they like it. But they still don’t know what it is…
