Checkboxes without checks

I have filled out quite a few forms made of up Microsoft Word documents. Many of these forms have checkboxes. On the computer, if I want to tick the box, I previously went to the trouble of opening up the Drawing Toolbar, selecting a freeform line, then drawing the check. This process had to be repeated for every single checkbox.

Since the checkbox itself was a Unicode character, I guessed that there must be a Unicode character with a checked checkbox. In fact, there is. It is Unicode character U+2611, titled "Ballot Box with Check." Unfortunately not all fonts include the character, so if you want to send the file to somebody, it is safest to convert to PDF. If you have a font containing the character, it should appear below:

Now when I want a checked checkbox in Microsoft Word, I can replace the checkbox with the above character.
