My hopes for a new computer may come sooner rather than later. The Samsung laptop is showing signs of dying. Specifically, the computer either spontaneously shuts down or goes into sleep (suspend-to-RAM, ACPI state S3) that it will not wake up from. I am guessing the problem is temperature related – possibly the CPU shutting off because it thinks the computer is too hot for some reason. It doesn’t matter what operating system I happen to be using at the time.
So far my solution has been to disable all power-management by the operating systems I run. The fan runs full blast, is noisy like a Pentium4 computer, but at least my laptop feels faster now. It also seems to run without stopping. I hope…
